Senior Associate/Consultant Social Worker, North East, reference NC16

POSITION SUMMARY
We are seeking an Senior Associate or Consultant Social Worker (North East) to join our multidisciplinary team. You will deliver high-quality, court-ready assessments and independent reports for private clients, solicitors, and other instructing parties. This is a senior, autonomous role for an experienced practitioner who combines excellent analytical writing with confident professional judgement, and who can work with warmth, clarity, and authority in complex, sensitive situations.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
· Undertake in-person assessments and produce independent social work reports to a high professional standard.
· Complete Mental Capacity Act-related assessments and documentation as instructed (including COP3/PA14 where appropriate).
· Provide expert input across matters involving care planning, safeguarding, best interests decision-making, and complex family dynamics.
· Prepare clear, evidence-based written work suitable for legal audiences, including solicitors, the Court of Protection, and tribunals.
· Work confidently with vulnerable adults, families, and professionals, maintaining a calm, compassionate, and boundaried approach.
· Maintain accurate records and comply with confidentiality, data protection, and professional regulatory standards.
· Liaise effectively with instructing parties, including providing updates, clarifying instructions, and meeting agreed timescales.
· Contribute to service quality, peer learning, and continuous improvement within the Nova Care team.
PERSON SPECIFICATION
Essential requirements
Qualified Social Worker with minimum 7 years post-qualifying experience (PQE).
Current registration with the relevant professional regulator (e.g., Social Work England).
Holds either:
Approved Mental Health Professional (AMHP) qualification, or Best Interests Assessor (BIA) qualification.
Management or leadership experience is essential (e.g., supervision, practice leadership, service development, quality assurance, or operational leadership).
Demonstrable experience producing high-quality written work, including either: At least 12 independent reports completed outside Local Authority practice, or Substantial experience in Court of Protection (CoP) work and/or Mental Health Tribunal work.
Strong understanding of the Mental Capacity Act 2005, best interests decision-making, and evidence-based practice.
Excellent report-writing skills: structured, analytical, and proportionate, with clear rationale and defensible conclusions.
Confident working independently, managing caseload, deadlines, and professional boundaries.
Full UK driving licence and ability to travel across the North East for in-person assessments.
Desirable requirements
· Experience as an expert witness or in providing court-ready opinion evidence.
· Experience with complex funding disputes (e.g., NHS Continuing Healthcare) or care package disputes.
· Experience working with forensic, dementia, neurodiversity, brain injury, or complex mental health presentations.
· Additional training in report writing, giving evidence, or legal skills (e.g., Bond Solon or equivalent).

We are seeking a part-time Personal Assistant to support the Managing Director of Nova Care Consultants. This role will also support our Nova Care Consultants working across the UK and is a remote-based role.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
• Manage correspondence, emails, and telephone enquiries for the director.
• Maintain accurate client records and case files in compliance with regulatory requirements for the director.
• Prepare reports, letters, and documentation to professional standards for the director.
• Coordinate appointments and manage calendars for multiple professionals for the director.
